Sarah's story as Queen Elect

On the day that Jane came in to pick the names for the Ferry Fair everyone was really nervous. I knew that there was about a 1 in a million chance that I’d get picked since almost every P6 girl had put their name in! When Mrs Logan (the P6A teacher) read out my name, I was speechless and couldn’t wait to tell my Mum and Dad. At break time everyone was surrounding me and asking me how I felt and things like that.

That night, at dinner time, we were trying to decide what to do with the house and eventually, we decided to do a castle. A few weeks later everyone was asking, “Have you got your dress yet?” and “What are you doing with the house?”  I started looking for a dress after my photo was taken for the programme (and website) and found it in a small shop in Corstorphine called Blessings and Blossoms where Claire Forrester got her dress from. There were hundreds of dresses in the shop and it took ages to decide but finally, after trying on about 10 dresses I found the perfect one! I know that this will be one of the most important roles I will do in my life and thank you for the honour of becoming Ferry Fair Queen2008. I am really looking forward to August and I can’t wait until the 9th!

The Gracious Lady for 2008 is Mrs Carol Corbett, the Principal teacher at Echline Primary School. Carol was born and brought up in Edinburgh which is also where she met her husband Douglas. In 1976, Carol and Douglas moved to Echline Grove in Queensferry with their two children Nathalie and Douglas.Carol joined the staff when Echline Primary opened in 1979, and this summer, after 29 years, the School will say farewell to one of theirfavourite teachers ‘Mrs Corbett’ and as she has said “This will be a good end to my career.” Other interests of our Gracious Lady are learning new languages and keeping fit by cycling and using weights. Carol was stunned but privileged to be given the honour of being Gracious Lady as she knows how important the Ferry Fair is to Queensferry and has expressed her thanks to the Ferry Fair Committee for asking her to take part. As might be expected, since the main court for Ferry Fair 2008 is from Echline Primary School, Carol has taught our Queen Elect Sarah, who was a pleasure to teach, and many of the other children taking part in the fair.
