A Message from the Committee

Welcome to the 2007 Ferry Fair.  This week represents the culmination of another year’s hard work from the entire Ferry Fair Committee.  The Committee are responsible not only for planning the week’s events and, with a great deal of assistance from a dedicated band of helpers, making sure they run as smoothly as possible.  They are also responsible for raising the funds necessary to make sure that it all happens.  The only thing the committee have never been able to control is the weather so, as always, all we can hope that the week is at least dry but, by choice, fine, warm and sunny would be preferable.

Our thanks go to Joyce Quigley, this year’s Gracious Lady, who will perform the crowning ceremony, as you will read elsewhere in this programme Joyce and her family have been great supporters of the Ferry Fair and two of her daughters have actually been crowned Ferry Fair Queen, Jennifer in 1986 and Ruth in 1992.

While thinking of Ferry Fair queens we would like to offer our heartiest congratulations to Queen Georgina, the 2007 Ferry Fair Queen.

As always we would like to express our deep appreciation for all the support the Ferry Fair receives from local traders, businesses and organisations.

Thanks also have to go the Police and The City of Edinburgh Council for their cooperation and assistance, the residents of the High Street for their tolerance as well as you, the people of Queensferry, for supporting the many fund-raising activities which have taken place during the year.

To organise a Fair of this type takes a great deal of effort from a large number of people and we would like to take this opportunity to remind you that we are always looking for new people to become involved so that the Fair continues to improve and does not become too set in it's ways.

So, if you would like to be involved in the future of the Fair, or if you have any constructive comments to make, please come along to the Annual General Meeting which we would expect to hold around the middle of November when preparations for the 2008 Ferry Fair will begin.

We wish the people of Queensferry and our many visitors a very happy Ferry Fair.

For, and on behalf of, the whole 2007 Ferry Fair Committee.

Graham Holmes

Chairman
