Ferry Fair committee member Kevin Mullen, recognising that the collecting
cans which are traditionally an im portant
source of revenue needed upgrading, came up with an idea to have new labels
produced.
Each primary school was invited to ask all pupils to enter a competition to
design a new can label, with a prize of £100 offered to the winning school,
a £30 book token to the pupil whose design was chosen as the winner with £20
book tokens to the runners-up.
Our photograph (courtesy of the Queensferry Journal and Gazette), shows the
prizes being handed over. Back row left to right, Megan Richards and
Kevin Mullen (Ferry Fair Committee members) with Roger Meacham (Head Teacher
Dalmeny Primary School) receiving the school's prize. Front row left
to right, Evie Dransfield (runner-up, Queensferry Primary School), Winner
Lyall Tighe (Dalmeny Primary School) and Connor Ross (runner-up, Echline
Primary School). In the centre is Ferry Fair Queen Jessica Hope
preparing to hand over the children's prizes.
The new label designed by Lyall (below) can be seen on the collecting cans
which are to be found at many locations throughout the district. Also shown
are the labels designed by the runners-up.
