A Day in the life of a Ferry Fair Raffle Prize Winner

"Sian and Tom at the Boathouses. Try to imagine a day in the life of a lottery winner.

That's just what happened to us when we scooped a major prize in this year's Ferry Fair raffle. And it wasn't just one prize. We had won a night at Dundas Castle's secluded loch-side Boathouse and a champagne meal for two at South Queensferry's renowned Boathouse fish restaurant. And if that wasn't enough, local taxi firm, Hawes Cars, provided upmarket transport to and from the restaurant.

The day started with a china service afternoon tea in the castle's imposing drawing room. We were then escorted to our exclusive accommodation in the Boathouse set by a magical deep green loch. The old Victorian boathouse has been tastefully renovated with immaculate attention to detail. It's cosy and luxurious at the same time.We spent a lazy afternoon; sipping champagne on the balcony, feeding the family of swans, watching the ducks fight, avoiding the darting swifts and trying to track the heron wading through the loch's reeds. As the dusk settled on 'our' little loch it was time for our meal at the other Boathouse on the High Street. We got ourselves perjincked up and the charming and jolly driver from Hawes Cars was bang on time to take us to our champagne meal.We were greeted with a glass of chilled champagne and went on to have the most perfect meal with friendly and efficient service. Sian recommends the monkfish and I recommend the halibut. When we got back to the loch-side Boathouse the swans had some more buns while we took a night-cap in the lowering light on the balcony. In the morning there was a knock on the door and we were presented with a fantastic breakfast hamper.

Sian and I were completely blown away by this amazing prize from the Ferry Fair committee and all the contributors who were so generous and kind to us.

Thank you all so much".

The Ferry Fair Committee is very grateful to Sir Jack Stewart-Clark and staff at Dundas Castle for once again providing this top quality prize, Paul Steward and staff at The Boathouse Restaurant for the champagne dinner and Hawes Cars for the transport.
